The Art of Note-Taking
Exams may seem far off in the future, but trust us, when it comes time to study for finals, you will be so much happier if you’ve taken good notes along the way. There are lots of ways of taking notes but here are a few tips you may find helpful.
- Headings and Dates. Make sure you always give your notes a heading and date. When you go back to study, they’ll be easy to find and you’ll know exactly what material was covered that day.
- Break information into chunks. You don’t need to write down everything the teacher says. It can be very daunting to look back on your notes and see nothing but endless paragraphs. Capture the main ideas of the lesson by using major headings and bullet points instead of long sentences.
- Try the Cornell Note Method where you divide your paper into two columns and put terms/headings on one side and definitions and examples on the other (wider) side. Our picture should give you the idea.
