Astraea is literally a rocket scientist with her degree in Astrophysics yet has the ability to explain advanced topics in a way her students can understand. She has tutored a range of students for us, from middle-school physical science to college level Calculus III.
Master’s in Physics
Georgia Institute of Technology – Atlanta, GA
August 2018 to August 2019
Bachelor’s in Astronomy & Astrophysics
Florida Institute of Technology – Melbourne, FL
August 2015 to May 2018
Graduate Researcher, Modeling Velocity-Dependent AGN Corona
Georgia Institute of Technology, Department of Physics – Atlanta, GA
January 2019 to August 2019
• Researched theories on accretion discs, accretion disc illumination, and relativistic corrections involved with a moving illuminator (corona).
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Georgia Institute of Technology, Department of Physics – Atlanta, GA
August 2018 to August 2019
• Managed both in-person and online classes ranging between 12 and 30 undergraduates with nonphysics concentrations.
• Instructed and commanded the integrity of undergraduate classes (of about 30 students on average) on introductory laboratory physics.
Florida Institute of Technology, Physics and Space Science Department – Melbourne, FL
August 2017 to May 2018
• Utilized Python scripted source code to create probability distributions of possible three-dimensional AGN jet geometries.
She did a very good job in teaching her labs — she was clear with her explanations, had good classroom management, and always checked for student understanding by asking them probing and guiding questions — Emily Alicea-Munoz, Georgia Tech
